The Registry Fix
Review
Registry Fix may
not be as well known as RegCure or Registry mechanic, it is
though still extremely popular amongst users of Windows
registry cleaners, as such it is definitely worthy of a
Registry Fix review and comparison with RegCure.
The Registry Fix Details
-
Software Designer – Registry Fix
doesn’t appear to have been designed by any of the
well known software development firms. It is
available as a download from www.registryfix.com but there
doesn’t appear to have been any further programs
designed by the same company. Whilst not
necessarily a bad sign, it does offer less comfort
than knowing it comes from a well known developer.
-
Compatibility – Registry Fix works
will all versions of the Windows operating system,
although there is no guarantee provided of
compatibility with Windows Vista.
-
Features and Functions – Registry
Fix comes with a number of additional features –
-
-
Back-up and Restore – easy
back-up feature that allows the Windows
registry to be copied before a repair is
undertaken.
-
Add and Remove Programs –
an inbuilt manager allows programs to be
added and deleted as required. This appears
to be surplus to requirements though, as
Windows itself also has same feature.
-
Start-up Manager – this
feature allows a user to choose which
programs are loaded during the boot-up
process, this can greatly improve the speed
of a machine.
-
Browser manager – A useful
feature that allows plug-ins and toolbars
to be disabled, speeding up browsing
experience.
The Test Results
The first step was to install Registry fix from the internet,
the only source being the official website. This required the
download of a small installation file, a process that was
simple and fast.
Once installed, Registry Fix opens in a simple
window. This window doesn’t appear as professional as other
Windows registry cleaners but appearances alone do not make a
good program. A complex and professional interface may only
serve to slow down a computer, so basic could be a good
thing.
Using the simple interface the undertaking of a
registry scan was fairly straight forward. The scan itself was
fairly quick and appeared quite comprehensive. The results of
the scan though did look somewhat alarming, as it reported fair
more errors than we would have expected from RegCure or
Registry Mechanic. Looking in detail at the errors made us
think that Registry Fix was reporting entries that were not
necessarily errors, deleting them may have caused some serious
computer issues.
There are few additional features or functions
that come with Registry Fix. We would have liked to have seen a
system monitor or compactor, although in truth these are not
vital aspects of a good registry cleaner. In essence it scans,
identifies and fixes which is what we want from a registry
repair program. We did though like the Browser Helper manager
that does speed up internet browsing, and the presence of the
back-up feature is also a comfort.
Overall
Impressions
Registry Fix is a good registry repair program, and does a good
job of scanning and repairing. It is a decent Windows registry
cleaner as shown by our Registry Fix review although compared
with RegCure from ParetoLogic it is a poor second choice. Take
a read of our RegCure review
for details of the benefits of
RegCure.
